Vis Island

Smokova is a hidden sandy beach tucked into the southeast coast of Vis island, a little over 18 nautical miles by boat from Hvar and just south of Stončica. Sandy beaches are a rarity in this part of the Adriatic, and Smokova's soft, pale sand shelving into warm, shallow turquoise water makes it a standout — a favourite for families and anyone who prefers sand underfoot to pebbles.
The bay is well sheltered and quiet, framed by low pine and maquis-covered hills, with room to anchor comfortably offshore. Its most unusual feature lies just beneath the surface: the wing of a WWII aircraft rests on the seabed, making this one of the most memorable easy snorkelling spots near Vis. Bring everything you need, as facilities are minimal. Reaching Smokova by boat pairs naturally with a wider Vis-island day from Hvar, alongside Stončica, the Blue Cave and Komiža.
