Vis Island
A Cold War-era military tunnel on Vis island, once used to hide Yugoslav navy submarines — now a fascinating historical attraction you can explore by boat.

Hidden inside the cliffs near Vis town lies one of the most unusual attractions in the Adriatic — a network of tunnels built during the Cold War under Yugoslav leader Josip Broz Tito. The island of Vis served as the central naval base for the Yugoslav army, and these tunnels were designed to conceal submarines from potential aerial detection.
When Vis returned to Croatian civilian control in 1989, the military installations were gradually opened to the public. Today you can enter the tunnel by boat and explore this extraordinary piece of 20th-century military history set against the stunning natural backdrop of the Vis coastline.
It's also a great spot for jumping into the sea — the deep, crystal-clear water at the tunnel entrance makes it a thrilling and safe place to take the plunge.
