About Murvica Bay

Murvica is a tiny village of barely 20 inhabitants perched on the southern slopes of Vidova Gora, Brač's highest peak. Below it, a dramatic rocky bay drops into the clear Adriatic, with views stretching across the channel to Hvar island.

The beach is a 150-metre strip of smooth rock and pebble, framed by striking limestone formations and shaded by Mediterranean pines. The water is crystal clear with a rocky seabed — excellent for snorkelling among the natural formations.

But the real draw is what lies above. The legendary Dragon's Cave sits 300 metres above the village, carved into the cliff face by an unknown 15th-century monk. Inside this small, daylit cave you'll find mysterious stone reliefs: a dragon, the moon, human figures, and birds on nests — a unique blend of Christian and pre-Christian symbolism that scholars still debate today.

Guided tours depart in the early morning for the 4-hour round trip through vineyards and rocky terrain. The climb is steep but the reward — standing in a medieval monk's secret sanctuary high above the Adriatic — is extraordinary. Combine a morning cave hike with an afternoon swim in the bay for a perfect Brač day.
